Just yesterday I was having a conversation about what Mike Davis has been up to. Since I've been thinking about downtown Los Angeles a lot lately, Davis's texts on the city (City of Quartz and Ecology of Fear) keep rearing their ugly heads and problematizing the way I think about urban space in the postmetropolis.

It appears that Davis recently set his sights on an even more gratuitous conglomeration of capital than L.A. in an essay entitled Fear and Money in Dubai in the The New Left Review. I'm going to sink my teeth into this over cappuccino this afternoon.
